Joyce Price, the leader of the Caring ministry at TTUMC, has started a blog:
Not only did she start the blog, but she has led with a first post that reveals the heart and purpose of the Caring ministry in a very human way. Blog posts like this will draw and inspire volunteers to show Christ-like caring to the many lonely people around us.
Since this blog is about communication, let me point out ways that Joyce engaged in effective blogging.
- She was personal and authentic.
She told something interesting about herself and provided a window on what’s motivating her. - She quoted material written by another person.
Good bloggers do a lot of this.
Bonus Tip 1! If you’re referring to a book, a great thing to do is to provide the link for the book on Amazon.com, like this: Saving the Corporate Soul. If you’re referring to written material that is freely available online, provide a link to the material online, such as this link about Joyce’s blog post.
Bonus Tip 2! If your quote from a writer is lengthy, indent the paragraphs. Your blogging software will have a little tool button to do this. - She used mostly short paragraphs.
Some longer paragraphs are fine, but people reading online have less patience than people reading, er, on-book. - She covered one topic.
- She inspired.
By the way, when you start blogging, please don’t be afraid that I’m going to critique every blog post you put up. I won’t. But I will read them—because my RSS reader will alert me! Please add http://effectivechristlikecaring.blogspot.com to your RSS reader today.

Thanks so much for the encouragement and the tips for my future blogs. Since I am just starting out, I really appreciate any help you throw my way!
Have a blessed day!
