RSS SOS

Filed under: RSS, blogging — Ed Jordan @ 9:06 am

Reading blogs is more efficient if you use an RSS reader–a program that puts all your “feeds” in one place. I use Google Reader, which is free. As I’ve said in the past, you can get started with Google Reader by reviewing my post Getting Started with an RSS Reader.

In addition, the Newbie’s Guide to Google Reader will help you learn even more (via Terry Storch).

To see a list of TTUMC blogs, visit the TTUMC.net blogs page.

TTUMC Leaders Show How to Blog for Different Purposes

Filed under: RSS, TTUMC, blogging, church library, communication, how-to, inspire, prayer, teach, teaching, volunteers — Ed Jordan @ 4:00 am

TTUMC leaders are blogging, and their recent posts show different ways that blogs can be used to lead, teach, and inspire. If you have a TTUMC-related blog, imagine how you could blog to accomplish similar things.

  • Give a progress report. DJ Price at Church Library tells us the hours he hopes to keep the TTUMC library open. How could you give a progress report on the ministry you participate in?
  • Praise volunteers. In the same post, DJ acknowledges the work of a volunteer. Whom could you praise on your blog?
  • Call for volunteers. In the same post, DJ offers more volunteer opportunities at the library. What volunteer opportunities could you use your blog to offer?
  • Give a how-to. Jackie Diamond at TTUMC Prayer Warrior describes how to engage in soaking prayer. What could you “how-to” on your blog? Consider these examples:
    • How to lead a small group activity
    • How to read the book of Leviticus
    • How to visit a sick person in the hospital
    • How to greet someone who seems shy
    • How to invite a friend to church
    • How to feed the homeless
  • Get personal. Shields and Martha Clark at Partners on a Journey convey their experience about the importance of solitude. In doing so, they give us details about their thoughts and lives that draw us in to a deeper understanding of how two particular followers of Jesus are maintaining their relationship with God. How could you get personal on your blog in ways that make people understand what it’s like to follow Jesus?

By the way, you can subscribe so you read these blogs as soon as they’re updated. Here’s a how-to on getting started with an RSS reader.

TTUMC Celebrates Recovery: Whoo-hoo!

Filed under: Celebrate Recovery, RSS, blogging — Ed Jordan @ 1:08 am

TTUMC’s newest ministry blog, TTUMC Celebrates Recovery, has been launched by Jasmine Rogers.

She writes:

This site is for anyone dealing with habits, hurts and hangups; and especially those going through Celebrate Recovery or a similar program.

I started this blog as a place where people can feel comfortable to share their experiences and give their feedback. I know sometimes we don’t always say what we want or need to say at a meeting because of time. However, what is said here should not compromise the confidentiality of your small group.

Occasionally, I will list prayer requests (and you can do the same), inspirations to help you get through the day (or week) or things going on in the recovery world.

To stay on top of this blog, add TTUMCCelebratesRecovery.WordPress.com to your RSS reader.
